Defying the pressure of having limited preparation, Gray – AC Ong cagers succeeded to handle this obstacle as they bagged their second victory of the season after pounding the White – ARUP team through a nine-point deficit, 63-54, in the recently held 7th Consultants’ Cup preliminaries at JCSGO Christian Academy Gymnasium, April 6.
The gray team exploited an early attack through shooting three consecutive strikes in the first minute of the match that situated their opponent in an undesirable position. Although ARUP cagers managed to register several shots, the winning side didn’t permit them to lead the first quarter, 23-12.
AC Ong’s star player Aljon Togonon fueled their rapid attacks and imposed an impenetrable defense — earning a massive 10 points in the second canto — that put the white team again in a pitfall both in the offensive-defensive side, 43-24.
Meanwhile, ARUP exhibited their grit and relied on their stamina to outrun the gray team’s players in the start of the second half. Their splendid performance after carrying their momentum continued despite losing the upper hand earlier that ended the third quarter with only 8-point difference still in favor of AC Ong, 52-44.
In the last quarter, the winning team set the tone and extinguished the fire and hopes of ARUP in ruling the said match by means of countering all the attacks coming from the opponent, marking a 63-54 victorious win.
“Nagpapasalamat kami kasi bukod sa panalo, walang injury. Ang plano niyan talaga namin ay makapag-training kahit once a week. Kulang pa kami sa takbo, at ‘yong depensa kailangan pa talagang pag-igihan,” Togonon said.
